What makes a good spa deal?
Please speak with us privately if you return about your treatment disappointment, and I am sure we would be able to replace the time lost for another treatment for you. My friends and I visited this weekend to celebrate a 30th birthday. This is my second time here and a lot has changed over the years. I love this place — I have stayed at other Spa Hotels over the years and this is by far my favourite. As a resident you can use the whole of the facilities — including the Day Spa. We arrived at 11am in the morning, determined to make the most of the overnight stay.
Although you can not check in until the afternoon you can still use the facilities as you can after check out on the day of departure- until 6pm There are 2 changing rooms that you can use to store your day luggage, with another room to store further luggage if required. If you wish, the team will arrange a guided tour of the hotel when you arrive. The only thing that spoiled it for me and others I believe this time was the fact that the hotel are now diversifying and catering for weddings — makes good business sense I know, but I think they need to increase their staff to accommodate this.
Also in my opinion I think the two variations of the guest base can conflict, whilst we were trying to relax in the afternoon — the evening band were practising, this did not bother us at all but I know it prompted a few people to request a room change. Also I believe that the service was severely impacted, we had to wait at lunch for the buffet to be replenished, at evening meal the service was very slow, one of our party was given a totally different meal than what she had ordered — we were asked to pre-book our options at lunch, so she should have been told as soon as we sat down to eat and given the option to change if required.

One of the side orders never did arrive. The food although good — was not on the same par as it had been on my previous visit.
When we went to the Champagne Bar later, the poor girl was left serving by herself, not an easy task when she was expected to make complicated cocktails, liquor coffees etc. Also I did hear complaints from the wedding party that they had to look at people in their dressing gowns! This is not a total critism of the service, on the whole, taking into account the Spa team, the concierge I feel that the service is still good - it just suffered this weekend I think in the bar and the restaurant due to the wedding. We are having a purpose built room for weddings and this will ensure both the wedding guests and the spa guests have correct environment for their personal needs.
I am delighted you think our spa is the best and I promise we will continue to strive to improve in everyway. Customer service and satisfaction is paramount to us. We attended Hoar Cross for a family wedding. The wedding took place at the same time as check in but the staff accommodated us as much as we could and allowed us to check in before 12 to one of the rooms. Had we not had a room available, at least we were welcome to use the spa changing facilities. The reception area itself was a little too small to accommodate hotel guests and a very busy spa facility - one of the problems I suppose in having a listed building which I presume is difficult to convert to modern day requirements.
Also, the only lift to the upper floors was not very conveniently situated and people waiting for its arrival could produce a bottleneck for hotel guests and spa users. The corridor areas looked a bit tired and in need of some re-decoration, while some tables in the main lobby bar could have done with some refurbishment ingrained glass stains don't add to the character. That said, we couldn't have been more pleased with our room. A double aspect, front facing large room with large flat screen TV more than met our needs. The bed was very comfortable, as was the bathroom.
Pre-reception drinks were served on the large terrace at the rear. The reception was held in a marquee in the grounds at the rear - wonderful facility with the poshest portaloos adjacent to the rear entrance complete with piped music! The wedding breakfast was of a high quality, given the numbers catered for. Overall, staff were courteous, efficient and very friendly. Breakfast the following morning was excellent with a large variety suitable for everyone. Dear Angel , Thank you for your review, I am pleased you enjoyed your family wedding here and found the staff to be efficient and friendly.
The reception desk has now been changed and is now one long sweeping open aspect so no more cramped check in or out. We are grateful for your feedback and hope to see you again. Have been visiting Hoar Cross Hall since and last went in when I was less than overwhelmed with the experience. This time check in was supposed to be 3pm and when I tried to check it we were told our room was not ready. I complained as check in time is 3pm Receptionist offered to extend the check out time by 1 hour which I thought was fair.
However this was not done and when I tried to get back into my room at 11;40am the next day I was locked out! I had just been to aqua class so was wet and wanted to get changed. Went down to reception wet and was told the system had not been updated!
So that just added insult to injury. The receptionist was less than courteous when I voiced I was unhappy and after I stated my case she said I could have another 20 mins in the room. This place used to be special but there seems to be a cost cutting exercise going on which affects the overall service offered. You had to go hunting for the free tea and coffee that again was always readily available. Lets face it there are lots of very good spa hotels around now that are considerably cheaper than Hoar Cross but we continued to visit due to the little touches they used to have that set them apart from other spas.
Now they are not even as good as some of the budget Q Hotels that are a lot cheaper but you get a lot more "bang for your buck"! I would only consider going again if there was a very good special offer as at the usual prices, I can get a far better deal elsewhere.
Your basket is empty!
It's a shame as we have been going there for a long time but Hoar Cross don't seem to be catering for clients who are not necessarily the "groupon" brigade! Shame, it used to be worth the journey, but not now Dear Joanna W, I was most concerned to read your feedback following your visit to our spa hotel. Your key card for the room should have been extended when the offer of the extra hour was made to you, I do apologise for this inconvenience and the attitude of the member of staff. You may change your towels for the spa at any of the desks or at the gym and can ask for more than one if you so wish, we now offer complimentary slippers to on arrival for residential guests as well as complimentary robe hire.
A bowl of fresh fruit is always available on the check in desk, but you are correct it has been taken out of the rooms as we found it was going to waste with so many meals included in most packages, it simply was not being eaten, we have however changed this for packs of biscuits that keep longer and can be taken for the journey home if you are just to full to eat them whilst staying.
We do not offer any packages to groupon but do have lots of in house offers on our website that are cheaper now that several years ago. It was a really busy weekend too, so lots of people to share the facilities. The spa treatments - first rate! Hot stones, Indian Head Massages, Costal scrub, reflexology, facials. We could have stayed in the treatment rooms all day! They have some hot water beds in the treatment area too - give them a try! Very relaxing!!
Spa deals and 2 for 1 offers
The food isn't great to be honest. The restaurant in the evening is better than the lunch time offerings. But, not what I'd expect of a good standard hotel. Overall, I would go again only for the treatments, but not to stay at the hotel. Dear Keli O, Thank you for taking the time to review your experience with us at our spa hotel.
We now have a new chef who has come to us with a wonderful reputation and has already changed both the a la carte menu and the breakfast menu, with very positive feedback. We do plan to upgrade and refurbish our water grotto areas in the New Year, we are at this present time refurbishing many parts of the hotel with the reception desk and gym complete. I am delighted you enjoyed your treatment so much and still wish to return, and hope you will try an overnight again.
